Yes, to Self-empowerment because… this is YOUR Life!
My story starts as a highly sensitive child that decided to help, please and save everyone around her. As a young adult, it was clear that I lived up to the expectations of my surroundings, being driven by their opinions and demands. Many of us are conditioned and programmed to live for the outside world. Nothing wrong with that, you might think… because that is how society wants us to live.
Except that it is dangerous to our life and our health. I experienced that first-hand when I got hit by a stress-related illness after 38 years of living from the outside inward. My whole immune system collapsed, and doctors warned me that I would never be able to walk a flight of stairs again, let alone work again.
Yes, I recovered… and this is exactly what I want to discuss in this article. For the first half of my life, I was giving away my power and control to other people. Do not get me wrong, I was the most responsible daughter, sister, wife, mother and any other role that you can think of. But I never took responsibility for myself, for my own thoughts, feelings and actions.
While studying ancient and modern teachings during my healing journey, I understood that I had to become conscious of my disempowerment and lack of deep self-care. I decided to lead myself and take my life into my own hands.
“You write your life story by the choices you make.” ― Helen Mirren
Sitting in the driver’s seat of your car, instead of being driven by someone else and sitting in the back seat of your car, is a conscious decision and a daily choice that you need to make again and again. If you want to experience personal power, control and freedom in your own life, you need to take your power of decision and choice into your own hands. That is exactly what I did and it contributed to my healing process and, more so, to living my purpose.
Self-empowerment needs to be encouraged as part of conscious self-care, which is my global message. Every woman (and man) on this planet has the birthright to write her own story, to design her own life instead of being controlled by others. This concept needs to be heard and spread as there is still fundamental doubt and disbelief that everyone has the right to discover and use their own personal power and decision-making ability. We need to set our boundaries, decide for ourselves what we want and need, and express it without guilt or fear.
“A bird, sitting on a tree is not afraid of its branch breaking
because its trust is not on the branch, but on its own wings.”
In today’s society, where social media, 24-hour availability and pressure are not to be ignored, self-empowerment is often buried deep under the ground. Depression, burnout and suicide are at their highest levels ever. As I expressed in my speech, we need to start living from the inside out. Every daily decision and choice needs to be our own. We need to practice conscious self-care on a mental, emotional, physical and spiritual level.
What about you and your life story? Are you feeling you are writing your own? Or are you living in disempowerment, trying to live up to the expectations of others?
Conscious self-empowerment and self-care is an essential ingredient for happiness, fulfilment and certainly for a better future.
