From Unconscious Sacrifice to Conscious Self Care
While recharging my batteries here in Spain, I can honestly say now, that life has been hectic and demanding over last weeks. I never realised how much until I stepped out of the plane, got in the taxi and arrived here at the flat. I suddenly felt the tiredness and heaviness in my body. Time for self care.
Yes, it still happens to me that I am in this unconscious modus of giving my all to others. Of course, not for long as I have been trained to be aware of my body and its signals since my serious illness almost 20 years ago. But we all need to be vigilant when it comes down to the giving nature and lifestyle of a busy, deeply caring entrepreneur or professional.
If you are one of those people, you know exactly what I mean.
It is so tempting to put the well-being of others before our own, just to please, save or help others. Many of us are so dependent on the recognition or confirmation of others that we do whatever it takes to get it. It is an unconscious engrained pattern and way of living. We sacrifice ourselves and our well-being by saying “yes” to others, while your inner voice is telling you not to do it and wants you to say “yes” to yourself.

To me, it includes everything from self-acceptance, self-accountability and self-reliance to numerous ways of taking care of your body, mind and spirit. Self-care is much more than nutrition, exercise and sleep. It means listening to your inner voice, your feelings and your needs. It involves “caring for yourself” on a mental, emotional and physical level.
Now why do I say “Conscious” Self Care?
Because you and I have so many unconscious patterns and beliefs that have been installed since our childhood that we need to become conscious about what we think, say or do. We need to become aware and notice our inner critic and low self-worth to step out of that judging modus. We can consciously send love and care to our authentic self and be grateful for who we are and which amazing body we live in.
Self care is not a luxury, but a necessity. And if you can do it from this specific state of consciousness, it is a remedy against any chronic stress, strain and struggle. You will feel free, fulfilled and fully alive.
And of course, this lifestyle needs to be practiced daily so that you own this deep complete self-care. Only then can you give your love and care to others without unconscious sacrifice of your own well-being.
